Sonia’s mother Svetllana, who was born in Tbilisi, neighbouring Georgia and married to an Armenian man from Yerevan, remembers that she already had 7 children when in 1997 the Armenian government had offered her family free housing facilities to relocate to Nagorno Karabakh after the first war. Now she is 50 and she says she is no longer interested to return in the region. She is now a widow who is interested for the safety of her grandchildren after her husband died of heart disease two years ago. According to IOM (International Organisation for Migration) as of Dec 2020 - an estimated 92 639 people alone were displaced as a result of military operations in areas bordering Azerbaijan due to the 44 days of war over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
