Armenia's Internally Displaced

Koropetyan Armen (R in picture) a 46 years old Armenian from Nagorno Karabakh, is father of six children. He and his wife Sonia at the age of 30 (L in picture), were given shelter by the government at the previously abandoned building of “SOVIET Hotel” in Metsamor. Speaking to them on Tuesday, Dec 28, 2020 – they said that they’re not going back to Nagorno Karabakh. They also said that their children were not given any medical observation other than from Armenian red cross.
According to government statistics, there are 192 000 internally displaced people in Armenia. This figure covers displacement due to a variety of causes. However, according to IOM (International Organisation for Migration) as of Dec 2020 - an estimated 92 639 people alone were displaced as a result of military operations in areas bordering Azerbaijan due to the 44 days of war over the region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
