23 imagesOn the road from Goris to Stepanakert throughout Lachin Corridor, in the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on Tuesday, Dec 22, 2020, I've seen and photographed shelled walls of civilian residencies, shepherds taking care of their sheep, beautiful mountains and people renovating a petrol station facilities as they're looking forward to developing their life. I've seen also Azerbaijani armed forces under the companionship of Russian peacekeeping troops who control the five-kilometre-wide Lachin corridor, which provides communication between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, the safe return of people to their places of residence, and the movement of civilians as well as army vehicles. The corridor is a mountain pass connecting Armenia and the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. The corridor is de jure in the Lachin District of Azerbaijan, but de facto in the Kashatagh Province of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh. It contains the town of Lachin and the villages of Zabux and Sus. Located within Azerbaijan’s official borders but run by ethnic Armenians, the landlocked enclave was the subject of devastating wars between '91 to 2020. Nagorno Karabakh is located in the Caucasus, between Europe and Asia. Historically, its population has been mostly ethnic Armenian with a substantial Azerbaijani minority. The region was incredibly important both to Armenians and to Azerbaijanis. Nagorno-Karabakh has kept its de facto autonomy, but Azerbaijan maintains its claim to it. 63 imagesOn Wednesday, Dec 23, 2020, is my second day in Stepanakert, where I met with leading women of the self-proclaimed republic of Artsakh in Nagorno Karabakh. Those women were a member of the national assembly, they were a mother who looks after their children, a wife who lead their family alongside their husband, education minister who care to educate their society, head of a shelled school and dear teacher to their pupils. I've seen their strength in standing together to raise their children and their society, I've seen the courage in their teardrops and their voice of call for help. I've seen children's sad faces with happy smiles going to their newly reopened school facilities drowned in the debris of Azerbaijani bombshells. Will they live here, will they feel safe in a strip surrounded by men in uniforms that sought to see them dead, only time will tell. The enclave is internationally recognised as Azerbaijani but has been run by ethnic Armenians since 1994. The peace deal of Nov 9, 2020 - sparked jubilant scenes in Azerbaijan and fury in Armenia. Under its terms, Azerbaijan will hold on to several areas that it has taken during the conflict. Armenia also agreed to withdraw from several other adjacent areas. (Photo/ Vudi Xhymshiti)

16 imagesUpon arrival at Gulnara's house with my crew, not long after that, her father in law Alihan Gregorian made a dramatic entry when he started crying out loud, hugging the portrait picture of his fallen son and confessing his family's tragic story of him losing his only son and his grandchildren losing their protective figure, their father. During 44 days of the war, the region saw an end of the conflict after a ceasefire agreement was signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan on 9 November to end the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijani government established the Karabakh Region Authority (KRU) for the districts of Nagorno-Karabakh that came under Baku's control. The city of Stepanakert (Khankendi) is now under the jurisdiction of the KRU of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan. (Photo/ Vudi Xhymshiti)
